Stress headache is a type of headache that happens in many forms such as tensing of the neck and shoulders when one experiences lots of stress in life. These days, more people are prone to stress headache due to the fast moving pace of modern lifestyle.
Stress headaches are often resulted by lack of blood circulation through tensed up neck and shoulder muscles. Sitting in front of computer and staying in an office all day are the common reasons of stress headaches.
There are some natural ways to deal with stress headache. Here are some of the methods to gain stress headache relief holistically:
1. Self massage head, neck and shoulders
This method is recommended by Price Charles’ doctor, Dr. Ali and can be done at your desk or at home. First, sit upright in a comfortable position and start massaging the shoulders. There are different techniques you can use: massage in rotating fashion making circles on muscle, squeeze and release the muscle to allow blood circulation and press the muscles with fingertips.
Make yourself relax while you are doing it by letting your shoulders drop. Spend more time on the tighter areas. From the shoulders, move to the neck and to the head. Be gentle and follow your instincts on how much pressure to apply.
2. Exercise
Staying indoor and sitting in one position for a long time in front of TV or computer can cause one’s shoulders to become tense and interruption of blood flow to the brain.
In order to release the tension on shoulders and allow blood circulation to the blood, one should perform exercise. Exercise also helps to release any thoughts that are adding the head.
3. Getting out and Breathing Deep
Getting outside can help one to change perspective and allow fresh air into the lungs. Breathe deep with nostrils to enable aerating the front part of the brain that causes the headache. By taking a deep breath will also help to re-oxygenate the body and allow tension released on the shoulders in order to stop headache.
4. Meditation
Meditation helps to release stress and take away the headache. It helps by allowing your mind to settle and re-establish perspective and therefore release the stress.
5. Catch Yourself
If you had experience with stress headache, you would get the signal when it re-visits. Follow your instinct and take a break or massage your shoulders and go outside.
